Hum. [she keeps aggressively playing solitaire on her phone] Perhaps you’re right. It seems like nothing wants to be fixed.

And sometimes you have to beat things into letting themselves be fixed. Bent pipes and all that

Fem!Germany x Russia: Smiles

To be entranced by someone so… So… Luise didn’t even know how to describe him.

She couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was off about him, but there was something. Her eyes stayed trained on him thorough out the entirety of the meeting. Luise wrung her hands under the desk, trying to keep her mind on the speech on hand.

How would I describe him…? She thought. Well, there’s his hair. It looks like it would be soft to the touch. Her hands relaxed at the thought of running her hands through his platinum hair. Would it curl around her fingers or slip through, as evasive as he really was?

Or maybe… The way he carries himself? He stood tall where ever he walked. He addressed everyone in a overly familiar way. His voice was gentle, as if he spoke too loudly the other may run away. Despite his soft speech, he never lost his air of authority. The voice of a true leader.

Or…, she frowned shifting in her seat. Luise turned her head at an angle, trying to get a better view of his face. His eyes, a bright shade of purple, flickered between the speaker and his notes. His mouth, usually in a natural but questionable smile, had dropped into a concentrated expression. The curve of his face resembled that of a soft faced child, making Luise want to cup his cheek just to feel it.

The object of her attention suddenly noticed her gaze. He raised his head to her, looking her straight in the eye. Luise blushed, embarrassed to be caught, but kept her eyes on him. Ivan’s mouth curled up in a smile and he sent a small wave to her with his free hand. She felt her heart skip a beat but managed to sneak him a forced and awkward smile. His eyes seemed to glitter with amusement before returning to the speaker.

Her eyes widened. I’ve… I think I got it.

She managed to finish the meeting without having him catch her staring again. As the meeting drew to a close, Luise forced herself to walk over to him. He had been straightening his papers at his seat and looked up at her as she approached. Ivan gave a small wave of his hand once more, motioning to the seat next to him. “I’ll just straighten up my papers, comrade, but if you wish to talk that would be alright.”

"I’ll remain standing if you don’t mind." Her mind spun as to what exactly she would say but she kept a straight face. "I… Wanted to ask you something."

Ivan put down his papers, raising an eyebrow at her. “Oh? I will answer it if I can.” She blushed as he made eye contact once more and averted her eyes slightly before bringing them back. His smile…

"Why do you always smile all the time?" She noticed his eyes widen in surprise, the smile slipping from his face for a moment.

Ivan tilted his head to the side, a hurt expression on his face. “Does it annoy you?”

Luise leaned against the empty chair, resting her arm on the head and letting her other hand laying on top if it. “Nein… I just… Wanted to know is all.”

Ivan stared at her for a moment, as if prying into her soul. He let a smile return to his face, but this one, unlike the others, was more natural… Affectionate. Luise could feel the heat rising to her face and averted her eyes for a second before returning them.

Ivan stood up, his figure towering over her. He took her hands and held them in his. His hands, appearing to be soft, firmly grasped hers as if revealing to her a secret he had kept for too long a time.

"It may be strange to admit," he started, his voice barely audible to her, "But I smile because you won’t."

Her entire face heat up and she pulled her hands away. “I do smile!” Ivan gave a little chuckle. “And why does my not smiling make you smile? It doesn’t make sense.”

Ivan rested a finger on his cheek. “Not how I see it, Miss Luise. Your smile always seems so forced. So I force myself to smile to show you how to smile. A monkey see, monkey do, sort of reasoning.”

She let her eyes narrow. “Then will you stop forcing yourself to smile if I smile properly?”

Ivan nodded and pointed his fingers at the corners of his upturned mouth. “Here, this is how!”

Luise let her frown remain for a moment longer before slowly inching the corners of her mouth in a smile. She couldn’t help but feel it felt forced. Ivan raised his eyebrows in expectation. She attempted to raise her smile even larger but failed, letting her mouth relax with sigh. “I can’t do it,” she groaned frustratedly.

She felt a hand on her cheek and turned her eyes upward to see the Russian leaning down, his eyes peering at hers gently. The smile on his face had become natural again, endearing. Luise felt her face turn beet red.

"Don’t worry then," he whispered to her. "I’ll just keep smiling until you can, too. Then we can smile together."
